It was Sunday service, mid February, when I attended Community Bible Church as a visitor with a friend. The preacher was absent and in his place was a woman who spoke of the tragedies of abortion. Her name was Carol Everett. After speaking to the congregation, she asked for volunteers to counsel at the Agape Pregnancy Help Center. I am a student at UTSA, pursuing a bachelor’s degree and eventually a master’s degree in psychology. Carol’s testimony was touching and I thought the volunteer opportunity might be a good chance to get my feet wet in counseling. I had no idea how God was working behind the scenes.
A few weeks later I attended a training session at Agape. I had never been faced with so much information about the procedures and outcomes of abortion. I left the session feeling burdened and heavy-hearted. I prayed for the Lord’s reassurance that this was where he intended for me to be.
A month after I had been counseling at the Center, I ran into a friend of my nephew. She had something to tell me in confidence about my nephew and knew I could help him out. She told me that his girlfriend was pregnant and that they were planning to abort in two weeks…on her 18th birthday. I went to my car and prayed, knowing full well that God intended for that meeting to happen. I had recently been equipped with the knowledge of how to talk to a girl who was abortion-minded. I looked back on Carol’s testimony and saw that it was the beginning of God’s protection over this baby. With the tools given me at the training session weeks before, I was able to convince my nephew and his girlfriend that they needed to talk to their parents. I have just learned that they plan to keep their baby.
In His perfect time the Lord prepared the way through my training and counseling at the Pregnancy Center to face a difficult situation in my own family. I am eternally grateful to Him and to the people He has placed in the Center so that baby and mom might be saved and have everlasting life.
