A young woman came to the Center for a pregnancy test. She was considering abortion as an option if her test was positive because she was working and attending school. Although the majority of our clients have a religious preference, she did not. It didn’t take long for us to confirm her fears; the test was positive. In addition to talking to her about how to tell the significant people in her life, we gave her various pieces of literature about abortion (the option she was considering), as well as information on parenting and adoption. We also gave her literature for her boyfriend to read. Before she left, we presented the Gospel and she accepted Jesus Christ as Savior. How exciting it was when she returned to get the Report of Pregnancy form to apply for Medicaid, confirming her intention to continue her pregnancy. She subsequently enrolled in our Earn As You Learn program and is now earning points as she prepares to deliver her baby.
We never know what the women we counsel will choose, but we are grateful when we have the opportunity to share the Good News that Jesus loves them and has a plan and purpose for their life. Many of the girls never call or come back to see us, but I know that when we are faithful to tell them that children are a blessing and to share God’s love and our own compassion with them they are more likely to choose life.
